If you buy your fire extinguishers to be legally compliant and keep your insurance valid. In that case, they’re required to be installed by a professionally qualified extinguisher technician, and that appropriate certification is obtained.vv

Service Appointments

Firewise will contact your company before a service visit for an appointment, and this would continue on an annual ‘rolling’ basis with no cancellation period. Our prices include all basic spare parts, e.g. tags, washers and pins.

How often should fire extinguishers be tested?

If you are responsible for fire safety within your business, you need to make sure Fire Extinguisher Servicing is carried out annually to meet current fire safety regulations.

A detailed visual inspection should be carried out monthly, where the location, condition, tamper seals and pressure gauges for every extinguisher should be checked and documented.

Suppose your monthly visual inspection identifies any damage or a pressure drop. In that case, we advise you to book a Fire Extinguisher Service to make sure your extinguishers are in full working order in the event of a fire.

Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

Fire extinguisher maintenance is carried out annually:

It involves comprehensive checks for damage, corrosion and partial or complete discharge.

Reference is made at all times to the manufacturers’ specific instructions and recommendations on servicing and recharging.

Once the service is complete, the fire extinguisher is labelled and tagged to specify performed service (i.e. inspection, test, refill or recharge).

Do I need to Service my Fire Extinguishers?

The Fire Scotland Act 2005 firmly places responsibility for Extinguisher servicing with the owner/employer within all commercial premises.

All fire extinguishers fitted in commercial, industrial, residential and public buildings require regular tests and inspections.

British Standard Code of Practice BS5306-3:2009 recommends for safety that your fire extinguishers are serviced at least once a year by qualified technicians.

Firewise (Scotland) can provide these services to ensure your workplace is safe at a cost-effective price.

Once we carry out a free survey and know the site-specific requirements, we will install the correct equipment. The extinguishers will be commissioned/serviced, and a compliant certificate will be issued to you.

All relevant records will be kept, and we will contact you when the next annual service is due.
